Walking Collection

Alpaca and merino wool socks, built for the trail

Walking socks for UK footpaths, from a Sunday loop to a long-distance route. A walking sock should move sweat away from the skin, stay put in the boot, cushion the heel and ball of the foot, and come up above the boot cuff. Cotton does none of that, so everything here is alpaca or merino.

Merino suits most of the year and long ascents; alpaca is the one for cold, wet days and standing breaks. Our own range is knitted in a family-run mill in Portugal; the occasional guest sock, made elsewhere, says so on its page.

Read how to choose walking socks and our guide to anti-blister socks before a long walk.

Alpaca or merino for walking?

Alpaca Boot Socks (74% alpaca) are the warmer, cushioned choice for cold or wet days in boots. The Merino Boot Sock is lighter and more breathable, which suits longer walks in milder weather. For walking shoes or easier days, try the Alpaca Crew Socks or the Merino Everyday Crew Sock.

Walking sock questions

Getting the fit right

A sock that is too big folds and rubs, so check the size guide on each product and pick your usual shoe size. Wear the socks you plan to walk in when you try on boots, and pack a spare pair for long days.

Do wool socks help prevent blisters?

Wool moves moisture away from your skin, and drier skin rubs less. A good fit matters just as much as the fibre.

Can I wear wool walking socks all year?

Yes. Wool helps regulate temperature, so it works in summer as well as winter. Choose a lighter crew sock when it is warm.
